Scienza e tradizione in IndiaFrom 26 to 29 November 2002 the meeting Scienza e tradizione in India was held in Udine by the Società Indologica «Luigi Pio Tessitori», in collaboration with the University of Udine, with the patronage of the Regional Authority of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the support of the Provincial Authority of Udine and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Udine e Pordenone. The meeting was organized in three days. On 26 November the official presentation of the three-year project Il contributo indiano alla formazione della scienza moderna took place in the Sala Florio of the University of Udine. After addresses of welcome by Furio Honsell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Udine, there were speeches by Caterina Furlan (University of Udine), Paolo Serafini (University of Udine) and Fausto Freschi (Società Indologica «Luigi Pio Tessitori»). At the end the lecture Euclide e Panini was given by Furio Honsell. The project, promoted by the Società Indologica «Luigi Pio Tessitori» in collaboration with the University of Udine, aims to study some ancient Indian sciences such as logic, grammar, mathematics and astronomy, and their contribution to the formation of modern science.
