Tessitori e l’IndiaWith the patronage of the Regional Authority of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the support of the Provincial Authority of Udine and of the Municipal Authorities of Udine and Moggio Udinese and of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Udine e Pordenone, the Società Indologica «Luigi Pio Tessitori» on 9 and 10 September 1994 organized an international conference on the subject of Tessitori e l'India in Udine and Moggio Udinese. The following scholars contributed to the proceedings: Carlo Della Casa, University of Milan (Interessi indologici in Italia all'epoca di Tessitori); Hazari Mull Banthia, Panchala Shoda Samstana in Kanpur (Tribute to Dr. L. P. Tessitori for his Unique Contribution to Indian Art, Culture and Archaeology); Enrico Fasana, University of Trieste (Tessitori e il Rajasthan dei suoi tempi); Romano Lazzeroni, University of Pisa (L'autonomia del poeta e lungua poetica indoeuropea); Nalini Balbir, Université de Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle (Tessitori’s Pioneering Work on the Uvaesamâlâ, a Basic Book of Jain Teaching); Nagamma Reddy, Osmania University of Hyderabad (Perspectives on Vowel Quality and Quantity Distinction across Indian Languages); Giuliano Boccali, University of Venice (Per un inedito tessitoriano: la versione del Puṣpabāṇavilāsa); Ramakrishna Reddy, Telugu University of Hyderabad (Linguistic Diffusion in Central India: Austric, Dravidian and Indo-Aryan Symbiosis); Bruno Marcolongo, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (On the Trail of the Vedic Sarasvati: from Tessitori to the Present Day); B.G. Sidharth, B.M. Birla Science Centre in Hyderabad (Astronomical Symbolism and Ancient Indian Chronology: a Date for Rāmāyaṇa). A number of cultural events took place at the same time as the conference, which was inaugurated at Palazzo Belgrado and concluded in the Salone del Parlamento of the Castle of Udine. These events included a Concerto di musica indiana, performed by Sankha Chatterjee and Budhaditya Mukherjee from Calcutta; an exhibition of photographs entitled Tessitori and Rajasthan: 1914/1919; a screening of the documentary Luigi Pio Tessitori. Diario 1914-1919, produced by the Centro Linguistico e Audiovisivi of the University of Udine in collaboration with the Società Indologica. The documentary had previously been broadcast by Radiotelevisione Italiana. |
